Privacy policy
Addify names the exact version of the song playing in a clip. Here's what that takes, what it doesn't, and what happens to it. Written from what the app and its server actually do.
Effective 31 October 2026
The short version
- No accounts. No sign-up, no email, no password. What you save lives on your phone.
- Audio is never kept. Clip audio and your 12-second recordings are used for one lookup, then deleted.
- No analytics, no ads, no tracking. No third-party SDKs, and nothing follows you across apps or websites.
- You can erase what you sent. Profile › Delete account removes your votes from our server and clears the app.
We don't collect: your name, email, phone number, contacts, location, photos, payment details, advertising ID or device identifiers. The microphone is used only for the 12 seconds after you tap to listen.
Who runs Addify
What happens when you use it
You share or paste a link
- The TikTok or Instagram link goes to our server.
- The server downloads the clip's audio to a temporary folder, cuts short windows from it and fingerprints them. The folder is deleted when the lookup ends, found or not.
- The clip's public caption and comments may be read to help name the song.
- If the clip has vocals over another beat, the server may turn a few seconds of the words into text on the server itself (no outside service), then look those lines up on Genius. The words you see under a result come from that.
- To find the exact upload, the server searches SoundCloud and YouTube and fetches short pieces of candidate uploads to compare against the clip. Those pieces are deleted after the comparison. They're never stored and never offered to you as a download.
- The finished answer (song, artist, speed, links and the clip link) is saved on our server for up to 14 days so the same clip is instant next time. It holds no audio and nothing about who asked.
Shazam on your iPhone
In the iOS app, the server can send your phone short pieces (up to 12 seconds) of the clip you shared. Apple's ShazamKit on your phone turns each piece into a signature and matches it with Apple's Shazam service. This is the clip's audio, not your microphone. The pieces stay in memory and are never saved.
You tap to listen
The app asks for microphone access the first time. After you tap, it records 12 seconds of the music around you, and only then. The recording goes to our server, is fingerprinted in a temporary folder and deleted before the answer comes back. Shazam receives a signature made from it, never the recording.
You search
The words you type (a lyric, a vibe or a creator's handle) go to our server, which searches Genius, SoundCloud and YouTube with them. Results are held in server memory for about 15 minutes so a repeat search is fast. Search words aren't logged. Your last 8 searches are kept on your phone.
You play a preview
When you tap play, the app opens YouTube's or SoundCloud's own player inside the app and loads their player scripts. From then on your phone talks to YouTube or SoundCloud directly: they receive your IP address and device details and may use their own cookies or storage, under their privacy policies. Cover art and thumbnails load from YouTube, SoundCloud and Apple image servers the same way. Other buttons (Spotify, Apple Music, TikTok) open those apps or sites.
Addify uses YouTube API Services. What YouTube and Google do with data from their player is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
You rate a result
The check or X under a result sends the clip link, the song and artist we named, the upload we picked (its title and link) and your answer. After an X, "Which one was it?" sends the title and link of the version you pick, or that it wasn't in the list. The yes or no on a no-match screen sends the clip link, the guessed song and artist and your answer. Each row is stored with a random id and a time. Nothing in it identifies you. Your phone keeps the ids so Delete account can erase the rows.
An X also goes on our fix list with the same id, and the developer gets a Telegram message with the clip link, the answer the app gave and your pick. When the right upload is found, the clip link and that upload go into our corrections list, so everyone who scans that clip gets the right answer. While a clip you marked wrong is waiting, the app sends its link to our server when you open it, to ask if the fix is ready, and tells you when it is.
What stays on your phone
Kept in the app's storage on your phone. Not uploaded to us.
- Your Finds, liked songs and scan history (the last 500 scans), plus clips that didn't match yet
- Links waiting to be scanned, including a link you shared into Addify from another app
- Your last 8 searches, your check or X votes and your picks after an X
- Clips you marked wrong that are still waiting for a fix
- The ids of rows you sent, so they can be erased
- Settings: auto-save, monthly playlists, onboarding done, theme
- Spotify, only if you connected it: your Spotify tokens, playlist id and display name. Calls to Spotify go straight from your phone to Spotify. Our server never sees them.
Who receives something
None of these receive your name or contact details. They receive a link, a song title or search words, or an audio signature.
Apple (Shazam)
An audio signature made from a piece of the clip or of your 12-second recording, from your phone's ShazamKit or from our server. Never the recording itself.
TikTok, Instagram
The link you shared, so the clip's public page, caption and comments can be read.
tikwm.com
A TikTok mirror our server may use as a backup to fetch a clip or its comments. It receives the link you shared.
SoundCloud, YouTube
Search words built from the song, the artist and the uploader's handle, or the words you typed. When you play a preview, their player talks to your phone directly.
Genius
Lyric lines heard in the clip, or the words you typed in search.
Google, Brave, DuckDuckGo
Title-based searches when the server looks for an edit's name.
Apple Music, Deezer
The song and artist, to build the links under a result.
tokchart.com
Asked by our server for the trending chart. Nothing about you is sent.
Telegram
When you tap X: a message to the developer with the clip link, the answer the app gave and your pick.
Cloudflare
Carries traffic between the app and our server, like any network provider.
Every service listed here gives the data it receives from Addify the same or equal protection as this policy. We send them nothing beyond what's listed.
How long we keep things
- Audio: deleted at the end of each lookup. Never written anywhere else.
- Answers for a link: up to 14 days on our server.
- Search results: about 15 minutes, in server memory.
- Your check or X, your picks and no-match answers (and the fix-list copy of an X): until you erase them.
- Corrections list: a clip link and the right upload for it, kept so that clip keeps getting the right answer. Nothing about who reported it.
- Your IP address: it reaches our server with each request, as with any website. We don't store your full IP address. Our web server keeps a short access log to keep the service working (time, page requested, response code, device type and only the first part of the network address, for example 17.0.0.0), deleted after 14 days. If abuse limits are on, the server counts requests against a salted hash of the address, kept in memory only and gone when the server restarts.
- Timing log: the server keeps a log of how long each step took, with the clip link and the song searches it made. No audio, no IP address, nothing that identifies you.
Deleting your data
- Profile › Delete account erases your votes, picks and fix-list rows on our server, clears everything the app stored on your phone and reloads the app. No email, no waiting.
- It can't reach a Telegram message already sent to the developer or a fix already in the corrections list. Neither says who you are. Email kmacinnis30@gmail.com with the clip link and we'll remove them.
- Microphone: turn access off any time in Settings › Addify › Microphone.
- Deleted the app before you erased your votes? Email kmacinnis30@gmail.com with the link you rated and roughly when, and we'll erase the rows.
Things we don't do
- No analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs. No data brokers.
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
- No selling or sharing of data for advertising.
- No downloads of songs or clips for you. Previews play in YouTube's and SoundCloud's own players, and everything else links out.
Children
Addify isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has sent us something, email kmacinnis30@gmail.com and we'll erase it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version goes up here with a new effective date.
